L to R
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their three-game series with the Colorado Rockies. David Peralta and A.J. Pollock homered in a four-run seventh inning to help the Diamondbacks win the series opener 5-3 last night.
Miller losses third straight start
Shelby Miller (0-3, 9.00 ERA, 1.79 WHIP) lost his third start since returning from Tommy John surgery after giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits (one home run) and two walks with seven strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings in a 6-3 setback against the Padres last Thursday. Miller was better than he was in his previous two outings, which might not say much but he did his part against San Diego and just didn't get enough help.
The Diamondbacks have scored 412 runs (11th in the majors), putting up 4.48 runs per game (12th), hitting .231 (28th) with 104 home runs (16th). Arizona ranks 3rd with a 3.48 ERA, 9th with a 1.23 WHIP and 3rd with 806 strikeouts. Their bullpen ranks 1st with a 2.49 ERA. Paul Goldschmidt leads the Diamondbacks with 20 home runs, a .388 OBP and 95 hits to go along 51 RBI and David Peralta has team-bests with a .292 batting average and 52 RBI and he adds 16 home runs.
Marquez throws six strong innings against the Mariners
German Marquez (7-8, 4.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) allowed one earned run on five hits (one home run) and no walks with five strikeouts over six innings of a 7-1 win against the Mariners last Friday. It was Marquez's second straight solid start and he lowered his ERA from 5.14 to 4.92. His ratios this season aren't eye-popping but he's allowed just two earned runs in 14 innings across his last two starts.
The Rockies have scored 425 runs (9th in the majors), putting up 4.67 runs per game (9th), hitting .252 (8th) with 114 home runs (11th). Colorado ranks 26th with a 4.79 ERA, 25th with a 1.38 WHIP and 26th with 766 strikeouts. Their bullpen ranks 29th with a 5.35 ERA. Nolan Arenado leads the Rockies with a .309 batting average, 23 home runs, 64 RBI, a .393 OBP and 100 hits and Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon and Ian Desmond have 17 home runs each.
The Under is:
5-0 in Miller's last five starts during game 2 of a series
6-0-1 in Miller's last seven starts against a team with a winning record
4-0 in Miller's last four road starts against a team with a winning record
4-1 in Miller's last five Wednesday starts
5-2 in Miller's last seven road starts
4-0 in Colorado's last four home games
5-1-1 in Colorado's last seven overall
10-4-1 in Marquez's last 15 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance
17-7-2 in Marquez's last 26 starts against a team with a winning record
7-3 in Marquez's last 10 starts during game 2 of a series
6-2 in Marquez's last eight starts against the Diamondbacks
4-0-1 in Chad Whitson's last five Wednesday games behind home plate
12-3-1 in Chad Whitson's last 16 games behind home plate
This is a very high total, even for a game played at Coors Field and both starters are better than their records suggest.
