The Angels improved to 4-4 in their current 11-game road trip after winning two of three from the Tigers and Orioles. They try to get back on track after failing to complete a sweep with Sunday' 5-1 loss. Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani rested after starting the season just 4-for-21 (.190) with three RBI since coming off the injured list following Tommy John surgery last fall but he could play tonight.

The Twins are 11-2 after a loss this season and they're coming off a 5-3 setback against the Tigers on Sunday. Designated hitter Nelson Cruz left yesterday's game in the seventh inning with a sore left wrist and he's questionable for Monday. Cruz is hitting .270 with seven home runs, nine doubles and 22 RBI in 35 games. He will have an MRI done today to see what was causing the pain.

Pitching Matchup:

Tyler Skaggs (3-3, 4.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) vs. Jose Berrios (6-1, 2.53 ERA, 0.92 WHIP)

Tyler Skaggs gave up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 2/3 innings of a 10-3 loss against the Tigers last Wednesday but he's pitched well against the Twins, going 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two career starts with 15 strikeouts in 13 innings.

Jose Berrios has won a career-best five straight starts after throwing seven scoreless innings of four-hit ball with five strikeouts and zero walks in Tuesday's 3-0 victory against the Blue Jays. Berrios is just 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA in two career starts against the Angels.

MLB Trends:

The Los Angeles Angels are:

17-36 in their last 53 games against a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15

18-39 in their last 57 games after allowing five runs or more in their previous game

17-37 in their last 54 games against a team with a winning record

2-5 in Skaggs' last seven starts when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game

1-4 in Skaggs' last five road starts

3-7 in the last 10 meetings in Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins are:

6-1 in their last seven games during game 1 of a series

17-5 in their last 22 games following a loss

22-7 in their last 29 games against a team with a losing record

5-0 in Berrios' last five starts

24-5 in Berrios' last 29 home starts

20-8 in Berrios' last 28 starts when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game

Skaggs has been dominant against the Twins but opponents have a .342 Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) and a .322 Batting Average on Balls In Play (BABIP) against him this season and he has a below average 4.44 Skill-Interactive ERA (SIERA). I'm not fading Berrios here, opponents have a .243 Batting Average on Balls In Play (BABIP) against him and he can be effective early.
