The Philadelphia 76ers will continue their push to improve their playoff positioning when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

Recent Takeaways

The Cavaliers are coming off an impressive 126-101 home upset of the Raptors on Monday. Six Cavs players scored at least 12 points, led by Colin Sexton's 28 points, five assists and four rebounds and Cedi Osman's 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Cleveland outrebounded Toronto 51-43 and made 18 of 41 3-pointers (43.9 percent).

Joel Embiid dropped 33 points and 12 rebounds in his first game in almost a month to lead the 76ers to a 106-89 victory against the Pacers. Philadelphia is now tied with Indiana for third place in the East, with the Celtics just one game behind them.

The Pacers were 3-for-20 in the third quarter and scored only 11 points while falling behind the 76ers 72-70 after holding a 14-point lead. Philadelphia was just 7-for-23 from beyond the arc (30.4 percent), they shot 76.7 percent from the free-throw line (23-for-30) and they outrebounded Indiana 52-44.

NBA Trends:

The Cleveland Cavaliers are:

6-0 ATS in their last six Tuesday games

4-1 ATS in their last six games against Atlantic Division opponents

5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings

The Philadelphia 76ers are:

3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing straight up record

5-12 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400

Jimmy Butler will get "a planned day of rest" but Boban Marjanovic will return after missing the last six games due to a knee injury. Marjanovic's presence will add significant depth to the Sixers and it allows Embiid to get more extra rest.

The Cavs will be playing in the second game of a back-to-back but I don't see them rolling over for the 76ers, even though they likely want to tank for Zion Williamson. Cleveland beat Philadelphia 121-112 at the Wells Fargo Center on November 23, so taking them lightly would be a mistake on their part, although both teams had different rosters back then.

The 76ers resting Butler makes me lean towards the Cavaliers being able to get the cover. Also, the underdog is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings and the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
