This Thursday night the Portland Trail Blazers host the Oklahoma City Thunder and the matchup at the point guard position will be fun to watch, with Damian Lillard going up against Russell Westbrook.

Though averaging yet another triple-double, Russell Westbrook is having one of the worst shooting seasons of his 11-year career. Many of Westbrook's accuracy numbers are either his lowest ever or lowest since the 2009-10 season, his second in the NBA.

Let’s dig into who's been better this season, Westbrook or Lillard?

Russell Westbrook

Regular season stats: 22.7 PPG, 10.7 APG, 11.2 RPG, 2.1 SPG (56 games)

Damian Lillard

Regular season stats: 25.9 PPG, 6.4 APG, 4.6 RPG, 1.1 SPG (63 games)

Damian Lillard has played incredibly well but is he better than Russell Westbrook this season? The numbers make it clear: Westbrook is the better offensive player right now. With his points and assists combined, Lillard accounts for 32.3 points per game. Westbrook accounts for 33.4.

This season, Lillard has the better PER (23.45 vs. 20.75), more win shares (9.0 vs. 4.7) and superior real plus-minus (4.41 vs. 2.38) but Westbrook’s usage rate is higher than Lillard's (30.5 vs. 28.2) and he averages more assists, rebounds and steals than him.

Lillard is the better scorer, averaging 3.2 points per game more than Westbrook and he is also taking better care of the ball than Westbrook, who is averaging 4.7 turnovers per game versus Lillard's 2.7.

Westbrook all-around game is incredible, he's not just a scorer and he clearly holds himself to a high standard in multiple facets, which is exactly what makes him an excellent overall player. Lillard has been clutch for the Trail Blazers all season long, there's no real recipe to slow him down and he's a better playmaker than people give him credit for.

NBA Trends:

The Oklahoma City Thunder are:

10-25 ATS in their last 35 games against Northwest Division opponents

0-7 ATS in their last seven games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game

0-8 ATS in their last eight games overall

0-7 ATS in their last seven games after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game

The Portland Trail Blazers are:

6-0 ATS in their last six games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game

8-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss

20-6 ATS in their last 26 games playing on 1 days rest

16-5 ATS in their last 21 games when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game

20-8 ATS in their last 28 games overall

38-16 ATS in their last 54 home games

39-19 ATS in their last 58 Thursday games

Damian Lillard has to be at his best at both ends of the floor to give the Trail Blazers a chance to beat the Thunder. Russell Westbrook and the Thunder have had the Trail Blazers' number this season, winning the previous three meetings but this is a good spot for the home team, as OKC has lost five of their last six games.
