Yankees making late push to sign Manny Machado

On the final weekend before spring training begins, the top free agents Bryce Harper and Manny Machado remain unsigned and the latest on why is that teams aren't offering enough money.

The Yankees, along with the White Sox and Phillies met with Machado late last year and although many thought the Bronx Bombers were out of the race after signing infielders Troy Tulowitzki and DJ LeMahieu but on Saturday it was reported by SNY's Jim Duquette, a former Mets general manager that the team offered Machado $220 million over seven or eight years.

Duquette also said that Machado is going to have higher offers from teams like the Phillies and Padres. If the Phillies want Machado they can outbid everyone but to me it seems their attention has switched to Bryce Harper.

This MLB offseason, pitcher CC Sabathia said on his podcast that he believed the longer Machado waits to make a decision, the better chance the Yankees have of landing him and I agree. Machado wants to play for the Yankees, he grew up a fan of the team and Alex Rodriguez is his idol so if the deals are close it's hard to imagine him not picking them.
