The Chicago Bears host the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC Wild Card game at Soldier Field.

Building a case for the Eagles to cover
The Bears come into this contest having won nine of their last 10 games, both straight up and against the spread but the Eagles ended the regular season with five wins over their final six games, the lone loss coming on the road on overtime, 29-23 against the Cowboys on December 9. Philadelphia had to turn to Nick Foles because of Carson Wentz's back injury and Foles led them in their last three regular season games and they put up 86 points in those contests.

After throwing for a franchise-record 471 passing yards and four touchdown passes in the 32-30 win against the Texans in Week 16, Foles wasn't used as much in their 24-0 victory against the Redskins in Week 16 but he's 9-2 in his 11 starts, a record that includes an impressive playoff run last year, when he threw six touchdowns with just one interception over three wins. One of Foles' two losses came when he was pulled along with most of the rest of the team's starters one quarter into a meaningless Week 17 game against the Cowboys last year after the Eagles had already locked up the best record in the NFC.

Another player to watch for the Eagles will be former Bear Alshon Jeffery, who has thrived alongside Foles. Jeffery averaged 5.3 receptions for a little more than 100 yards during the team's current three-game winning streak, all with Foles at quarterback.

NFL Trends:

The Philadelphia Eagles are:

4-0 ATS in their last four games in January

4-0 ATS in their last four games on grass

4-1 ATS in their last five games overall

6-2 ATS in their last eight playoff road games

10-4 ATS in their last 14 games after accumulating more than 350 total yards in their previous game

The Chicago Bears are:

2-5 ATS in their last seven playoff games

2-5 ATS in their last seven playoff home games

15-40-1 ATS in their last 56 games after accumulating more than 150 rushing yards in their previous game

The Eagles have caught fire at the right time and regardless of the outcome of this game, this season has to be considered a major success story for them because of all the injuries they had to endure. I don't think they can beat the Bears on the road but Nick Foles will play and we all know what he's capable of in big stages like this. Foles has a playoff passer rating of 113.2, the best of any player in history (min. 100 attempts), so look for the defending Super Bowl champions to go down putting up a fight.
