The Washington Huskies clash with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. This will be the first meeting between Pac-12 and Big Ten champions since Michigan State beat Stanford 24-20 on January 1, 2014, the last year of the old Bowl Championship Series.

Explosive plays should dictate the pace
Both defenses have been on polar opposite sides when it comes to allowing explosive plays. Washington ranks fourth in the country in gains of 20-plus yards from scrimmage and they lead the nation, giving up gains of 30-plus. Ohio State on the other hand, ranks 96th in 20-plus yards surrendered, 117th in 30-plus and 122nd in 40-plus.

The Washington offense hasn't been particularly consistent, quarterback Jake Browning (2,879 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions) has big-play potential targets in wide receiver Ty Jones (16.8 yards per reception) and tight end Hunter Bryant (26.7 yards per reception), who complement Aaron Fuller (51 catches for 794 receiving yards and four touchdowns).

Ohio State usually rolls up long gains, like in the 62-39 win against Michigan, a team with a defense that usually doesn't surrender them. The Washington secondary will face a tall task slowing Parris Campbell, K.J. Hill, Terry McLaurin and Johnnie Dixon, who have posted more than 600 receiving yards each this season. That, along with dangerous running backs J.K. Dobbins (1,029 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 223 carries) and Mike Weber (858 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 157 carries) will keep the Washington defense busy.

College Football Trends:

The Washington Huskies are:

No key trends

The Ohio State Buckeyes are:

2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a straight up win of more than 20 points

Ohio State has more difference-makers on offense than any opponent this outstanding Washington defense has faced this season, so I don't see them winning this game but I like them to give Ohio State a fight and cover.
