The red-hot Hofstra Pride put their four-game winning streak on the line when they visit the reeling Manhattan Jaspers on Monday.
The Hofstra Pride extended their winning streak with a convincing 89-73 win against the Rider Broncs on Saturday. Justin Wright-Foreman finished with a game-high 24 points and Tareq Coburn had a career-high 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds in his first career start. Eli Pemberton also played well, adding 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Pride are after their five-game winning streak since recording eight straight victories from February 11 to March 6, 2016.
Hofstra has won five of six dating back to November 21 and the lone setback came against VCU on overtime, 69-67 on November 24. Wright-Foreman and Pemberton are averaging 26.9 and 16.3 points per game, respectively and Wright-Foreman also leads the team with 4.4 assists per game while Pemberton is second with 5.4 rebounds per game behind Jacquil Taylor 7.4 rebounds per game).
The Manhattan Jaspers are just 2-6 on the season after losing three straight games, including a 69-62 loss to the Stony Brook Seawolves on December 5. Pauly Paulicap had a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double and Warren Williams added 10 points against Stony Brook. Paulicap leads Manhattan with 13.0 points per game and ranks second on the team with 5.3 rebounds game and Williams averages 7.8 points per game.
Hofstra is just 22-42 all-time against Manhattan. These two teams met last season in Garden City (Adelphi) and the Jaspers won 63-61. Hofstra hasn't beaten Manhattan since a 71-58 victory in 2010-11 but that five-game losing streak against the Jaspers will end tonight.
That said, styles make fights and Manhattan can slow down the pace against a Hofstra team that ranks just 252nd in adjusted tempo with 68.5 possessions per 40 minutes according to KenPom's rankings. I like the Pride to win but the Jaspers will cover at home.
