Two surging teams clash on Monday when the Miami Heat visit the Los Angeles Lakers in Dwyane Wade's last game against former teammate LeBron James. The Heat have won four of their last five games while the Lakers have won five of six.
The Heat are coming off back-to-back double-digit road wins against the Suns and the Clippers, which is extremely impressive considering how shorthanded they've been while the Lakers bounced back from a road loss against the Spurs with a solid 111-88 road win against the Grizzlies last Saturday.
These two teams met on November 18 and the Lakers won 113-97 behind a season-high 51 points from LeBron James in his return to Miami, where he won two championships in four years and this will be the last time that LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will share a basketball court together, as Wade will retire after this season. James and Wade played together with the Heat from 2010 to 2014 and last season Wade joined James in the Cavaliers briefly.
The Miami Heat are:
35-15-2 ATS in their last 52 road games against a team with a winning home record
22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600
4-1 ATS in their last five games overall
The Los Angeles Lakers are:
2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS win
2-9 ATS in their last 11 games against Eastern Conference opponents
1-5 ATS in their last six games against Southeast Division opponents
0-5 ATS in their last five Monday games
It's obvious that this will be a very emotional game for James and Wade and the outcome will come down to which team is healthier. Brandon Ingram will miss his third straight game after sustaining a sprained left ankle against the Spurs last Wednesday but the Heat's potential lack of depth is truly concerning.
Josh Richardson, their leading scorer with 19.2 points per game, missed Saturday's game with a shoulder impingement and is questionable against the Lakers, Tyler Johnson, who replaced him against the Clippers, left the game with a left hip contusion and Hassan Whiteside (personal reasons), Wayne Ellington (personal reasons) and Dion Waiters (ankle surgery) are not with the team on this road trip. I like the Lakers to win but the Heat will cover if Josh Richardson plays.
NBA Pick: Heat +6.5 (-110) (if Josh Richardson plays) at Jazz Sports
