Two struggling teams clash when the Phoenix Suns visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night. The Suns are an NBA-worst 4-20 after losing six straight games while the Trail Blazers have lost six of their last seven.
The Suns came out flat on Tuesday's 122-105 loss against the Kings, getting outscored 36-9 in the first quarter and it all went downhill since. Phoenix made just 12 of 43 3-pointers and they had 21 turnovers. Not having their two best players, Devin Booker and T.J. Warren didn't help but at least Trevor Ariza's shooting is starting to come back around. Ariza finished with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals making 5 of 13 attempts in 27 minutes.
The Trail Blazers have lost three games in a row and eight of their last 11 after struggling on both ends of the floor in Tuesday's 111-102 loss against the Mavericks. Portland got off to a slow start and erasing a 19-point deficit proved difficult despite playing better in the fourth quarter.
Damian Lillard finished with 33 points despite shooting 10 of 23 from the field because he made 11 of 12 free-throws and CJ McCollum added 18 points but the Trail Blazers were just 7-for-24 from 3-point range and they committed 18 turnovers (12 in the second half).
The Phoenix Suns are:
10-25 ATS in their last 35 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game
2-7 ATS in their last nine road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600
2-7 ATS in their last nine road games against a team with a winning home record
0-6 ATS in their last six games overall
The Portland Trail Blazers are:
10-1 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games
9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games against a team with a road winning percentage below .400
24-10 ATS in their last 34 home games
12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Hosting the Suns, who are just 1-11 in road games and will be without Devin Booker and T.J. Warren might be just what the doctor ordered for the Trail Blazers.
