The Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat meet for first time since the season opener. The Magic beat the Heat 104-101 that night, behind 26 points and 16 rebounds from Aaron Gordon. Miami made 11 of their first 20 shots but they were not as accurate for the rest of the game and finished shooting just 39.2 percent (38-for-97).
The Magic has posted impressive road wins over the Celtics, Spurs and Lakers and they actually swept the season series against Los Angeles. Nikola Vucevic's contributions have been significant this season, he leads Orlando with 21.0 points and 11.3 rebounds and he's been an incredibly skilled passer, especially for a center, averaging 3.8 assists per game,
The Heat had lost six straight home games before last Sunday's 102-100 win against the Jazz. Hassan Whiteside was dominant in that contest with 23 points, 20 rebounds and three blocks to help Miami overcome a 19-point first-half deficit. Whiteside now has 11 career 20-20 games (three this season) Dwyane Wade, who is retiring at the end of the season, had 15 points off the bench and hit two free-throws with 3.2 seconds to play to secure the win.
The Orlando Magic are:
4-0 ATS in their last four games following a straight up win
4-0 ATS in their last four road games
4-0 ATS in their last four games overall
6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win
6-1 ATS in their last seven games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game
6-1 ATS in their last seven games when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
The Miami Heat are:
6-13 ATS in their last 19 games against Eastern Conference opponents
4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games following an ATS win
2-6 ATS in their last eight home games
1-6 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record
Rodney McGruder twisted his right ankle in the first quarter and he will miss this game, along with Goran Dragic (knee), Dion Waiters (ankle), Tyler Johnson (hamstring) and Derrick Jones (hamstring). I admire how this depleted Heat team has had to scratch and claw for wins but I like the Magic in this spot, they're healthier, they play well on the road and they know they can beat the Heat.
