Derrick Rose and the Minnesota Timberwolves try to get back on track when they visit the Houston Rockets. The Timberwolves are coming off a tough 118-109 home loss against the Celtics on Saturday but they're playing solid basketball, winning seven of their last 10 games while the Rockets have won their last two contests and they've scored 108 points or more in their last 11 games.
Derrick Rose's comeback season is drawing plenty of attention and the evolution of his game has played a big part in Minnesota's recent success. The former NBA MVP recently had the first 50-point game of his career and his 3-point shooting has improved significantly.
Rose is playing at an All-Star level, averaging 19.3 points per game on 50.5 percent shooting, including 49.4 percent from 3-point range in 21 games, all on the veteran's minimum salary of roughly $2.4 million. He will likely explore free agency in the offseason and it's safe to think that many teams will be interested but Rose is more focused on the present, taking a leadership role that adds tremendous value to the Timberwolves.
Derrick Rose wants to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award and that goal appears within reach. D-Rose is averaging 20.2 points on 62.3 percent shooting, including 62.5 percent from 3-point range and he keeps doing his best to provide energy and production off the bench, like on Saturday's game against the Celtics, when he finished with 26 points and four assists, going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Houston Rockets are:
4-10 ATS in their last 14 games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game
2-5 ATS in their last seven road games
2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall
0-5 ATS in their last five games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game
The Minnesota Timberwolves are:
4-0 ATS in their last four games when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game
5-1 ATS in their last six games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game
5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on one days rest
4-1 ATS in their last five games overall
7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games
The Rockets have allowed their opponents to score 105 points or more in their last eight games and they will go up against a Timberwolves team that has the fourth-ranked defense in the league since trading Jimmy Butler for Robert Covington and Dario Saric (the Minnesota defense ranked 29th in the NBA before the trade).
I like the Timberwolves at plus money, they will be at home, their defense has improved, Rose can provide a spark on offense and the Rockets are struggling defensively.
