The West Virginia Mountaineers try to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Iowa State when they host the Baylor Bears on Thursday.
The Baylor Bears lost 23-17 to the Texas Longhorns on October 13 but it felt like a win for them, since they were on the road against a more talented team and they were able to hang with them until the end. Baylor showed a ton of heart and grit playing on the road in a tough environment and they were aggressive on defense, the problem was that their offense wasn't able to make the plays needed down the stretch to complete the comeback.
Charlie Brewer completed 20 of 39 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and one interception, Jalen Hurd had 13 rushing yards on six carries with one touchdown and he also made five receptions for 72 yards and Denzel Mims caught three passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.
The Bears are averaging 313.3 passing yards (12th in the nation) and 161.7 rushing yards (77th). Baylor ranks 39th with 33.4 points per game and 94th with 31.0 points against. Charlie Brewer has passed for 1798 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, JaMycal Hasty has 301 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 55 carries and Jalen Hurd has 47 receptions for 622 yards and three touchdowns.
West Virginia Mountaineers
The West Virginia Mountaineers suffered a disastrous 30-14 road loss against the Iowa State Cyclones on October 13. Senior quarterback Will Grier completed 11 of 15 for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception against an underrated Iowa State defense in easily his worst game of the season, which opened the door to questions regarding his Heisman Trophy resume, as West Virginia has faced some suspect defenses.
The setback possibly cost West Virginia a spot in the college football playoff and their poor offensive display was even more demoralizing because their offense was the main reason behind their success.
The Mountaineers are averaging 320.5 passing yards (96th in the nation) and 143.8 rushing yards (114th). West Virginia ranks 31st with 35.8 points per game and 28th with 20.5 points against. Will Grier has passed for 1919 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions, Kennedy McKoy has 343 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 57 carries and Marcus Simms has 28 receptions for 498 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Trends:
The Over is:
10-2-1 in Baylor's last 13 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game
6-2 in Baylor's last eight games overall
6-2 in West Virginia's last eight games following a straight up loss
15-6-1 in West Virginia's last 22 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game
Baylor allows 407.9 total yards per game while West Virginia allows an average of 359.8 and both teams give up over 33 points per game, which explains this high total. Both defenses are unreliable so I will lean on this game going over the number.
