Red Sox vs. Astros American League Championship Series Game 4

The Houston Astros look to prevent the Boston Red Sox from taking a commanding 3-1 lead in the American League Championship Series. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a grand slam in the eight inning to help the Red Sox win Game 3 8-2 yesterday. The Astros went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, so they know they have to capitalize every chance they get in Game 4.

Red Sox turn to Porcello in Game 4
Rick Porcello (17-7, 4.28 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) will make his second start of the postseason and first of this series. Porcello threw a scoreless inning of relief in Game 2 and he allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks with one strikeout over five innings in a 4-3 win in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Yankees but he has a 5.12 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in five career starts against the Astros.

Morton makes first postseason start
Charlie Morton (15-3, 3.13 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) led the American League with an .833 winning percentage, ranked seventh with a 3.13 ERA and 10th with 15 wins and he went 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in his last four starts. Morton threw three scoreless innings of one-hit ball, surrendering one walk and recording four strikeouts in his last start to get a no-decision in a 4-0 loss against the Orioles on September 30 and he was 9-2 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 16 home starts.

MLB Trends:

The Boston Red Sox are:

No key trends

The Houston Astros are:

6-2 in Morton's last eight starts after scoring two runs or less in their previous game

8-3 in Morton's last 11 starts when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game

7-1 in their last eight games following a loss

This is basically a must-win game for the Astros because they don't want to fall into a 1-3 hole in this series so they will come out ready to show why they're the defending World Series champions.

These two teams are evenly matched but having Charlie Morton gives the edge to the Astros, he has more postseason experience than Porcello and he was huge part of their success last year and in the regular season. Porcello might have a hard time handling going back to the starting rotation after being used in relief and Morton hasn't pitched since September 30, so he's fresh.
