France vs. Belgium
Saint Petersburg Stadium
Tuesday, July 10 at 2:00 PM ET
After upsetting Brazil in the quarterfinals, Belgium will have a chance to fight for their highest finish since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico when they face a France team coming off a comfortable 2-0 win against Uruguay.
France attempted only two shots on target against Uruguay but luckily for them both went in. Two shots on target in 90 minutes will not be nearly enough to beat Belgium. France has enough talent to beat Belgium but their offensive volume has to be considerably better. This will be France's biggest test in this World Cup and if they move past Belgium they'll be favored against England or Croatia, so this is pretty much the game that should have been the Finals. Jazz Sportsbook has France at +153 to win this game.
Belgium played brilliantly against Brazil, led by Eden Hazard's and Kevin De Bruyne's playmaking ability, Romelu Lukaku's power and Thibaut Courtois' timely saves. Belgium is highly motivated, they have been tested in this tournament and they have a perfect record with five wins in five games, scoring 14 goals in those contests, so it will be hard for France to get a clean sheet. Belgium is a slight +203 underdog in the 3-way moneylines for this game.
France has never lost to Belgium in a World Cup, which could explain why they're favored here despite facing a red-hot team that has overcome adversity in this year's tournament. This promises to be one of the best games of this World Cup and I lean towards a draw because both teams are evenly-matched and have plenty of firepower to counter each other's efforts.
