Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger didn't agree with the team's decision to select a quarterback in the third round of the NFL Draft, but he's trying to be a good teammate.
Roehtlisberger recently said that he didn't understand why the Steelers drafted a quarterback so early and that he doesn't want to be a mentor to Mason Rudolph. Despite Big Ben's statement, Rudolph said he received a text from Roethlisberger this week wishing him good luck.
"#Steelers 3rd round pick, QB Mason Rudolph, says Ben Roethlisberger texted him yesterday to wish him good luck at rookie minicamp. WR James Washington, the 2nd round pick, said BR called him day after he was drafted, telling him "to be ready to work."" (@AKinkhabwala)
The gesture might be small but it indicates that Roehtlisberger won't be a jerk to Rudolph, who recently said he didn't have to justify Pittsburgh drafting him.
Roethlisberger openly contemplated retirement last year but it seems he's really offended about the Steelers planning for a future without him.
It's easy to understand if he doesn't want Rudolph to come in and replace him right away but Big Ben should also help so Rudolph can be ready to lead the team once he leaves. The Steelers are at +300 to win the AFC at Jazz Sportsbook and at +750 to win Super Bowl LIII.
